Hey I’m Jess Porter-Langson, I’m a violist, and this is my album Look Mum! I’m an Artist!

This album is both simple and complex. It may be a complex listen for some, but the premise is simple - this album is about me. You’re listening to this album because of me.

 

This project began as a love letter to all of the moving parts that have been hot-glued and jammed into place to create the being that is me. It's a love letter to the viola, to the music that planted that creative seed in my mind, to women - brave women, to my mother and to expressive freedom.

This album's got it all, experimental Bach played on prepared bows, a crazed percussion and viola battle, tender lovesongs and lots of viola. Like the kind of awkward cousin you're reluctant to invite to family gatherings, the viola doesn't get out enough, but this time, she's the star of the show.

Inspired by my many years of being dolled up in big poofy dresses and posing with my violin for Suzuki graduations, this album is my way of reclaiming my power as an artist. I have free will, I can do whatever I want, and if you don't like it, there's a contact email at the bottom of this website.
